The Young Hegelian is a musical representation of a philosophical dialectic. One argument is presented in each of the first two movements with the‘resolution’ coming in the third and final movement. The piece was commissioned by Saffery Champness on the occasion of their 150th anniversary, and is a response to their theme for the year, the “Seven Dimensions of Quality”.
