Sonata for Piano and Marimba"XV1" |
This is the fruit of a hectic week at the 2008 CoMA Summer schoolComposer's course (Borrowed Materials) mentored by Michael Zev Gordon. My material here was a Haydn piano sonata. So I have to thank Michael (not to mention Franz Joseph), and also Rolf Hind (piano) and Joby Burgess (marimba) who premiered this work only one day after completion and receiving the score on 24jul08. They played a fantastic interpretation, and their technical input and suggestions are all here in the final version. Also input and suggestions from fellow students was invaluable, notably Guy Bunce & Jo Chesterman. Following composition lessons with George Holloway, I have made revisions to the1st & 3rd movements, which I hope creates a more fully realised sonata. The three movements are entitled (i) XV134-AEROSOL; (ii) XV120-BLOOD; and (iii) XV125304-RECOMBINANT.
