Curves, for three flutes and piano (second performance)

Performed throughout the world, Ian Clarke’s imaginative and accessible compositions have done more to break down the barriers between conventional and ‘extended’ playing techniques than any other recent music for flute. In a concert featuring as guest performers two of the UK’s leading flautists, Ian Clarke introduces to Wales his brand new work Curves for three flutes and piano, described at its London première in January 2011 as ‘inspirational and unforgettable ... an unstoppable smile’. The programme also includes the dreamily lyrical maya for two flutes and piano, Hatching Aliens, an exploration of ‘origins, corners and twists of reality’, and one of Clarke’s best-known compositions, the dazzling Zoom Tube.

Ian Clarke's appearance at The Flute Event is generously supported by Miyazawa flutes.
